Pretty and Polished Superstorm

Today I have some special polishes to show you. As we all know, Huricane Sandy reeked havoc on the upper east coast leaving devastation in her path. It's unfortunate this happened, leaving people homeless with no where to turn.

Chels at Pretty and Polished decided to make 15 bottles of a polish that was named Superstorm. She held a silent auction where anyone could submit a bid for one of the 15 bottles. I was lucky enough to be one of the 15 highest bidders. I think Chels did such a great thing by doing this for the Sandy relief. Between me and the 14 other bidders, almost $600 was donated. I am proud to say I donated to the relief effort.

Susperstorm is a color shifting polish that shows mostly green. The pink side is very evident in the bottle. It's visible on the nail but I was unable to capture it in photo. It is also holographic. Shown below is two coats of Superstorm with no topcoat.

You can see the pink slightly below.
The next three polishes are customs that were included with Superstorm.

The left is China Glaze Grape pop on it's own, and the right is with the custom glitter.
Although it's unfortunate these particular polishes aren't available, you can purchase Pretty and Polished Lacquer's in her Etsy shop and on Llarowe.

Hello all! It's been a while!

Hello! I know it's been WAY to long! I wanted to write to let you know what's up in my life outside of Let There Be Lacquer. I expect to come back next week in full swing! I am excited to be able to give this blog some much needed attention...I have many exciting plans for you all in the coming months!

I have a few pics of my life in the last month...Mykel and I the day before he left for Boot Camp. Ahh I am going to miss that scruff...;)

Mykel and his newest sibling, Xander. The 'X' is pronounced like a Z. OMG he is so cute. Love himmmmmmmm <3 <----both of em' :D

A haul from Sally's! We spent a lot of time at his recruiting office which happens to be next door to Sally's. :)

We moved out of our apartment..:/ It was a sad day because this was the first place that Mykel and I had together...we fell in love, got married and had lots of fun while living in this place. I am staying with my mom while he is away to save money. There was no need for me to be paying rent an hour away from family.

I turned 21 in July! Mykel and I went to the casino that opened recently in our area! We had dinner and played slots which was fun...this shot is a machine that Mykel put $5 into...YES, thats $428.50 he won!

We bought a new car! A 2012 Subaru Forester. I call it my mom van, only cuter! I love this car and it will be great to travel across country in.

And last but not least, my parents took me to the New England Aquarium in Boston for my birthday! I got to meet Nemo!

I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Stay tuned for lots of fun and exciting things to come! I would love to hear from you all, tell me what you have been up to or what you would like to see on LTBL.

Orly Mysterious Curse...found this in a dusty folder!

Today I have a polish from the Orly Dark Shadows Collection. Mysterious curse is a dark purpley blueish polish with duochrome tendencies. LOL what a description. It's dark, almost vampy and wonderful. I had a hard time getting a good picture of the purple side. It's too bad because this polish is very  interesting.

3 Coats Mysterious Curse. No topcoat.

Where I've Been..

Hello all! I wanted to write you all to let you know what has been going on in my life. I want to first apologize for bailing on the 30 day challenge. I had high hopes for it and had exciting things to show. However, as it usually does, Life got in the way.

A week before I started the challenge, we learned that my husband is leaving for Boot camp for the US Air Force much earlier than expected. We thought we had 7 months and in one day, it turned into 7 weeks. We had a lot to do, (move out, switch cell phone carriers, quit jobs etc.) before he left. I had almost 2 weeks worth of swatches for the challenge so I thought I was good. I figured by the time I got through those swatches, I would have more to show you..That was not the case.

My nails have been sadly naked for almost two weeks now. As of today Mykel and I have been living at my mother's for 1 week and we still aren't settled. Our stuff is everywhere and getting to my polish is a job in itself. I hope you all understand and hang in there because I have lots of plans. I will have loads of time after my husband leaves to focus on my blog and nails. I hope to get back into more nail art.

I have decided to put Let There Be Lacquer on hiatus until further notice. I know I haven't been present lately but I will make it official anyway. I hope to be back in mid august. I will pop in from time to time and I will be on Twitter if anyone wants to chat!

Until next time,
Meg

Untried 17: China Glaze Fast Track

Horrible pictures I know. This post is purely to satisfy the requirement for my untried for today. Better late than never right? I told myself I was going to do this challenge successfully and even with my crazy life, I am going to do my best to hold up to that.

China Glaze Fast Track from the Hunger Games Collection. I love how it matches my skin tone, but in the light you have that gold shimmer. Two coats without topcoat.

Glitter Glitter Sparkle Sparkle! Love.

Untried 16: Sally Hansen Gem Crush Showgirl Chic

Nothing like a good ol' glitter bomb. Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Showgirl Chic is a clear base packed with tiny silver glitter and blue glitter hexies. I believe this is a dupe for one of the China Glaze Eye Candy glitters.

I am not sure how I feel about this polish. I think it is one of those 'looks better in the bottle' polishes, to me anyways. The pictures below are two coats Showgirl Chic with no topcoat.

Untried 15: NYX Enchanted Forest

Today's untried is a lovely glitter. Enchanted Forest is comprised of small to large green holographic glitter hexies. I knew when I saw a swatch of this polish I just had to have it!

Not much to say, it's just plain awesome. Some pictures to prove it! One and a half coats of Enchanted Forest over black, I had to dab the largest glitters on.

Yum!

My Wedding! (Well..my Reception!)

Yay! Megan's getting married! I know this has nothing to do with nails, but I thought some of you might wanna catch a glimpse into my life outside manicures. This post is my planning of our reception from when we got engaged all the way until the big day! I hope you all enjoy.

I know this sounds funny but one of the first things I thought after we got engaged was, "What am I going to wear on my nails?!?!" Immediately my mind went to a subtle yet beautiful white polish with glitter and texture. The next week I saw the first swatches for the NYCBallet Collection by OPI. Not going to lie, I didn't give them a second look. But I fell in love with them after I looked at swatches for the 20th time. I NEEDED the white jelly and the glitter STAT! When I got them in my possession naturally I put them on right away. To no surprise it became my favorite and I fell for these nails. :)

(4 coats Don't Touch My Tutu! with 1 coat Pirouette My Whistle)

For a June wedding I wanted to do something special with the colors. I wanted them to make a statement but also be calm and beautiful. I went with fake flowers because unfortunately real flowers cost an arm and a leg. After spending hours in the flower department I decided on these.

And these are the arrangements for the tables.

Initially the colors I chose for the wedding came from paper my mom had in her scrapbook room. We came up with these invites with that paper.

YUM! I made the cakes myself, and I was so busy I only got a picture of one of the four! This cake is chocolate with peanut butter frosting, a favorite in my family!

We are moving soon so Mykel and I decided to have a 'money tree' of sorts. I found the most adorable little wooden suitcase at a craft store and decided to make it a holder for cards. I think this was my favorite part of the whole reception!

And last but not least are these little baskets that I filled with chocolates. I put these on the tables for people to munch on as well as take home as a favor.

I hope you liked my mini tour of my reception!

Untried 13: Pretty and Polished Party on my Yacht

Oh Boy! Today my untried is EPICCC! I seriously have been lemming this polish since it came out at the beginning of 2012. Party on my Yacht is a lovely polish by Pretty and Polished that includes small green, purple, pink and yellow glitters with a stray blue bar glitter. This polish is so special and unique, I feel like all polish lovers should have this polish in their stash. I love this polish and I know this is not healthy but I seriously look at my nails and want to eat the polish! ;)

The effect is really neat, I creates it's own jelly sandwich without needing to layer! Chels, the owner of Pretty and Polished sells her polishes on Etsy. She also recently made an agreement with Llarowe to sell her polished on their site. You can also check out Chels' Blog for updates regarding the brand.

I have pictured below 3 coats of Party on my Yacht with no topcoat.

HAD to show you the random blue bar glitter on my thumb! and the bottle shot makes me want to grab a spoon. ;)

Stay tuned for more Pretty and Polished as I got my order from Chels this week!

Untried 12: Darling Diva Polish Ringer

Now here is a polish! This polish kinda took the community by storm. Darling Diva Polish Ringer is a dupe for the infamous Max Factor Fantasy Fire. Very sought after, very happy I got this!

I have pictured below Ringer over a base of Revlon Royal. I don't even know what to say about this polish except for the fact that it is beautiful and I love it. :) No topcoat in the pictures below.

Untried 11: China Glaze Magnetix Pull Me Close

Untried number 11...I am almost halfway there! It's almost time for a major swatch fest to get some untrieds out of the way. China Glaze Pull Me Close is a part of the first Magnetix collection that was released earlier this year, you know, back when they were huge? Ha ha well I think the community is kind of over them.

I used two different magnets for this mani to show  a traditional stripe and the star, which is my personal fav. No topcoat on these pics.

Hope you Like!

Untried 10: KBShimmer Lilac Dreams

Another Indie for you today! I have Lilac Dreams from KBShimmer. I LOVE this polish way more than I thought I would. This glitter could easily be opaque in a few coats but I layered one coat over a base of OPI Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? This shade of purple is great and definitely under represented in my collection. The blue glitters in this polish are also holographic which makes this polish even more special. You can only see it a little in the pics but this polish is stunning even without the holo!

What's up tomorrow?
